I AM MICHAEL MORPHEW
I am Michael Morphew, an early career scientist who blends principles of geophysics and machine learning. I graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 2019 with a bachelor’s in geophysical engineering and am a current graduate student at Stanford University. My projects include analyzing everything from seismic data to remote sensing images. My main area of expertise is semantic segmentation, where I attempt to classify or predict on every pixel within an image. Some of my past projects are detailed in a couple publications that I have co-authored, and I encourage you to check them out to get a better understanding of my past research.
I am also an experienced programmer, with my language of choice being Python. I also have done coding projects in MATLAB, C++, and Java. In my spare time, I’m an avid rock climber, choir singer, and all around nerd. Palo Alto is home for now, but life has taken me from Washington state to Illinois to Colorado to Texas to Washington DC, and I’ve found that I can love wherever I wind up. Likewise, I have encountered many people different from me throughout my travels, and I believe that the future of science lies in a community that supports diversity and inclusion. To that end, I have also participated and volunteered for corporate employee resource groups to help minority employees find a sense of community.
I would love to talk more about geophysics and machine learning with you. Please check the “contact me” page for my social media links and email address.
